TOPIC A.
The people at E3 are apparently unaware of my spastic, paranoid behavior when around large groups of people, which causes me to shout profanities and tackle security guards while yelling “JUST TELL ME WHERE THE BATHROOM IS,” and decided to let me into E3 anyway. So, I’ll be there. If you will also be there, definitely say hi, but don’t approach me too fast. I flail when startled.TOPIC B.
Alan Wake is the single scariest creative production to ever come out of a human brain. I’m thoroughly convinced that Stephen King would crap his diapers if he played this game. I realize I may be exaggerating here, but as is usually the case when I exaggerate, I don’t care.
I’m only about halfway through the game, so when I finish I’ll have to write a full blog post detailing how much the experience truly scarred me. Like when I watched Jaws last month. Sharks are not okay.Bottom line: Alan Wake is NOT a game… It’s an experience. Absolutely check it out. But I understand if you are currently too busy tying prostitutes to railroad tracks in Red Dead Redemption to make time for Mr. Wake’s Nightmare Doom Coaster of Unholy Death and Soiled Pants. …Such a better title.
TOPIC 3.
SPLIT/SECOND. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE. JUST BECAUSE A GAME COMES OUT ABOUT CARS AND RACING AND GOING ASS FAST BUT DOESN’T INVOLVE ANY GUNS OR HOT NAKED WOMEN, YOU THINK IT’S OKAY TO JUST – TO JUST NOT BUY IT?!

FINE. I realize you are not made of dollars. I realize you can’t just go around willy-nilly buying every new game that comes out. BUT. Do me a favor and check out Split/Second if you can. Setting off explosions to alter your course and eff up other drivers is more fun than you could possibly imagine. I almost like it better… than… cover your eyes.......................… Burnout.
You: WAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH???
…I know what I said.
THANK YOU FOR THE SPLIT/SECOND LOVE! I've gotten to try it before and geez, it's what Burnout dreams of being. The fault I hear, which I agree with, is that there isn't enough tracks in the season, but it's also "can't get enough of a good thing" syndrome. I also got to talk to one of the developers here when I was working. He was a nice guy and was shocked I knew the game (He was wearing a Split/Second shirt).
ReplyDeleteOf course, it's also made by Disney...hurray! More money I'll never see from the company I work for.
Well now Alan Awake& RDR are definitely on my list (as soon as I but a PS3 :P ).
ReplyDeleteThe last car racing game I played was NFS Carbon...I never tried Burnout D:
Have fun at the E3, try not to get trampled d:
I'm always so jealous of E3 goers, or comicon goers, or really any good convention of film festival attendees... damn I need to get around to doing some of this stuff. Have a good time at E3 when that rolls around.
ReplyDeleteMeh. Any blue turtle shells?
ReplyDeleteAlan Wake- shine your flashlight to make the bad things disappear.
ReplyDeleteMe: YAWWWWWNNNNN.
A lot of my friends are playing Split/Second, but I've been wasting the last few weeks playing Red Dead Redemption. I've just never been a fan of driving games.
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to stick to a budget, so I had to choose between RDR and Alan Wake.

ReplyDeleteAlan Wake is uber awesome, but Split/Second... really? I mean, it's fun for like 2 hours, but you seriously think you can keep playing it? it's a lot to fork out for 2 solid hours of fun ><
ReplyDeleteSplit Second is amazing! VRRROOOMM NYYYYAAAOWWWW BOOM CRASH KAPOW KRRRRRKKKKKKKK EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE *SMASH*
ReplyDeleteHave an awesome time at E3, hope you do a blog about it here too.
funny, i've never been one for the racing games, but split/second i did give a second glance over. yes, i am in fact playing red dead, but not getting anywhere because it freezes every ten minutes... damn you, old 360.
ReplyDeleteso, hearing more and more positive praise for this game, i may have to check it out.
also, side note, i plugged you and brian crecente on my twitter account today. that pic of you and him at E3, wonderful. he is one of my nine followers...
Actually, I just got an e-mail from The President of Fun and he's assured me that Split/Second is both Bad and Boring.
ReplyDeleteI gave Split/Second it's chance with the demo just before it came out and while somewhat impressed, the feeling faded after half an hour with it. Not that it seemed to lack a sense of speed, or graphical beauty, or the ability to change the track. What wore me out on it, was the fact that it's all about set pieces. Once I figured out what was going to happen where, I felt no need to continue with it. Which would only be amplified once I got into the full game, or took it online. It loses it's uniqueness once you figure out the areas to avoid. Also, the fact that I have to change my driving style for the sake of trying to charge up to use the Power Plays turned me off to an extent that I can't currently find words to describe.
ReplyDeleteOnce I was able to compare the reviews between that and Blur, I forked over my money for the latter. Up to 20-player online races, the ability to carry up to three different power-ups, and the varied mods and real-world cars pulled me more than flashy explosions and scattered "Wow" moments ever could. Simply having to make the choice between grabbing a homing missile to launch up to disrupt the pack, or grabbing a shield so I can protect myself when I get up there impresses me more than worrying about having to drift so I can try to trigger a car explosion to make a pass.
Also like that you have to wear away at a car rather than having a one-hit wreck. Will admit freely that it doesn't have the same type of anxiety as driving through a cloud of smoke and flame and the worry about getting through the other side unscathed, but the worry of retribution from a driver you just mined into the far wall of a sharp corner brings it's own sense of dread of what may be coming. And the fact that you don't know where, or exactly in what form, it might come in adds it's own weight to the equation.
Ah, well, that's all I have to say about that, being a gamer on a budget, I had to make a choice, and I'm content with the one I made.
I got split/second, the game is actully fun, but i have to say that it also sucks. I almost completed the last episode, i hate the rubberbanding and that i can't play online (took me around 20min to get into the online game)
ReplyDeleteThe Rubberbanding makes it harder, but not as much fun when you are like far away form them, they just get teleported near you. I say wait for new NFS game, GT5 or Test Drive unlimited 2
