An Instance of Complete Socially-Retarded Behavior in Modern Warfare 2 -- *IMPORTANT*

So there's this chick named Amanda who is part of the All Things Fangirl blog. I have never met her in person (I know her through a friend), but just from Facebook, I am completely confident that she is awesome and kicks infinite amounts of ass. She experienced a truly heinous encounter with a socially-retarded and misogynistic male gamer while playing Modern Warfare 2 due to the lack of "party chat" -- a feature the games used to have. Here's an excerpt of her blog:

"A little later into the game, douchebag (who sounds about 15), makes a comment about shooting a 'n--ger', to which the black guy in the room does not take kindly. Douchey replies he can say whatever the hell he wants. I say "Maybe so, but that's really unnecessary."

Well, forget the blacks, because now he has a vagina to lash out at. He's probably had more contact with black people in whatever whitebread farming community he lives in than he has female genitalia. I know this, because he immediately questions me:

"Are you a dyke?...Women shouldn't be allowed to vote. [Five second pause] Women shouldn't be allowed to vote. Women shouldn't be allowed to buy Xbox games. Women shouldn't be allowed to vote. I'm just saying the truth."

Wow. What an asshat. How do we allow these people to continue breathing our air? Here is the open letter she wrote to the makers of MW2:

Dear Infinity Ward:

Please release a patch or fix that will allow users to utilize party chat in all modes of online gameplay, if only for the sake of your female fans. We shelled out the money for the game, we stayed up all night and missed half a day of work playing it, we write and read reviews and buy MW2 caps for our avatars on the XBox Live marketplace.

Out of respect for us, since, sadly, the majority of the people who play your game online have none, give us back party chat so we can enjoy the wonderful evolution of the online play without being told how unwelcome, ugly, stupid, and useless for anything other than degrading sexual acts we are. Please give us back party chat so we can have tactical conversation with the friends we're playing with, without having to hear how we have no right to be there, no right to play; so we don't have to hear, out of the mouths of sexist, bitter virgins who have clocked months worth of their lives in game time that we are socially defunct and sexually wrong, somehow, for playing.
I would really appreciate it.

Sincerely,

Amanda

Amanda. We heart you. And we think you should be allowed to vote. Call me and we'll go kick some pants-on-head retarded ASS.

  1. And, sadly, Infinity Ward will take that letter, read it, then say "Screw you, we made MW2" and not do a damn thing, as it seems that be the case.

Though I don't play Xbox Live because, well, I don't have a 360, I've heard similar things when I've played on headset in TF2. Luckily, some in the TF2 community don't take kindly to such talk and the mods in the servers, unlike MW2, have the ability to boot the sorry sons off the server. I say some because it still prevails from time to time. One server I frequent is co-run by a female gamer, who frankly kicks my sorry ass by backstabbing me all the live long day. When a dumbass like the one described shows up, they rarely last long.

That's the issue MW2's locked down online multiplayer has. The cheaters and asshats can get away with it because Infinity Ward neutered any punishment. Basically, that asshat can say anything they want, and while getting the ire of the rest of the group, they can't do a damn thing about it. It's like inviting the trolls in and saying "would you like to stay for dinner?". That's one of the reasons why I was so flabbergasted by Infinity Ward's decisions. It was shocking to me that they didn't get it to that extent. They need to not only bring back party chat, but also give the hosts of the games the ability to remove troublesome players. Sadly, it seems they have no intention whatsoever to give the player any control at all.

  2. Why are some people so stupid and retarded? It baffles me that people like that can get through life without getting the crap beat out of them everyday.

  3. Wow, that is just not cool. Back in my day, before Al Gore invented the internet, I would go to my friend's house and we would play GoldenEye. Right before we both would play, I would see his sister play, she was about a year or two younger than us. At first I though "Ha, girls cant play video games they...." at the point I saw her clear one of the levels without any problems what so ever. The next words out of my mouth were, "Holy crap that was cool!!!! Show me how you did that?!?!" My point is that what he said was way out of line, and that girls can play just as good, or even better than the boys. Just take a look at the FragDolls and PMS for example. They got where they are today by playing with the boys and beating them at their own game. They had to overcome several stereotypes given to them, the name calling, the douchbaggery of ignorant male players. Hell, I got pwned by a female employee at my work a few months back in Street Fighter IV. The first thing to come out of my mouth was, "How did you do that!?!? Teach me how you did that move." My point is that games are for fun, not for this kid's bad attitude. When find this guy again online, frag him not just for the girl gamers out there, but for all the gamers that he's giving a bad name to.

  4. I miss the days of counter-strike, where in the 10 seconds before the match would begin, we would all aim at the asshat, and when the counter hit zero we took him out of the match with friendly fire enabled. And you can't hear the dead over over text chat or voice chat. All he got to do was watch us play until he quit.

Much more satisfying that a Vote to Kick or Mute.

  5. I really like not having party chat. I feel it has kind of ruined a lot of the random interaction between people that made xbox live so entertaining. I also am not a girl and know that they do tend to get a lot of harassment whenever they talk in game chat, assuming the people in the room are stupid. I think a better idea is to just mute people and not worry about it, because then you wont be forced to miss out on the actual worthwhile random gamers you will meet along the way and still be able to weed out the annoyances.

  6. That's the prevalent problem with voice chat in-game - you can't live censor anyone out. It's also the problem with console-based FPSes that don't have dedicated servers with admins that can mute or kick people whenever they step out of line.

And it's not just Modern Warfare 2 this happens in. Oh no. Not even limited to FPS games either, I've seen race and gender slurs in beat'em ups, racing games.. you name it, and society's let you down on it. The point of gaming's to get away from this shit that plagues modern life, not to geeper into it.

Personally speaking - and I'm a dude - I'd have just told him gladly to (pardon my French) fuck off back to 4chan. I have no time for culturally intolerant people. That attitude gets you nowhere in life, not even out of your parents' basement. The sooner people start getting the heads-up about this the better. No wonder the world's fucked.

Sooner 2012 comes and the decent people on this God-forsaken planet are spared from doom and destruction, the better. Even though I don't believe in that load of crap, if it gets rid of the deadwood that don't deserve to live, then I'm all-for.

  7. Yeah, 80% of the time I play online (usually FFA), there's a lot of flaming / trolling against everything, black people, Mexicans, Asians, women. It's just really sad, but it makes sense, a lot of players are in their teen years. I found a way to play FFA with a friend in the same match and still be able to chat, I haven't tried this with more than one friend though, I don't think it'll work, so I really really hope IW comes out with a patch to remove this. This restriction doesn't really make any sense in the first place... if people really wanted to cheat, they could talk through skype or on the phone.

  8. I'm a girl and I actually like that you can't be in party chat while playing TDM on MW2. I'm not saying that I love talking to everyone who I play with, but you get to meet a lot of cool people that way and get the opportunity to play as a team. Besides, there is always the mute button.... and doing better than the person who called you a "fat video game playing whore" just feels so damn good.

  9. Even buying Modern Warfare 2 is retarded behavior.

And btw, I just discovered your blog, so you can expect to get more comments on old-as-hell blog updates. I realize that they're old and that you may even have changed your opinion since you wrote them or that they are in some way irrelevant to you at this point, so read them or don't read them, answer or don't answer. I'll still be writing them, just because I'm a narsisistic freak who believes that it's his duty to spread the shining beacon of light and knowledge that is his opinion (read: the truth) to all the unenlightened minions of tha internetz.

  10. In my experience, it's more common for people to become overly friendly and talkative when there's a girl on the server (not MW2 though, don't play that crap). Everybody wants to talk to the girl, and everybody tries to flirt with her. That can be just as annoying though, every time they log on there is ten guys trying to get her attention, asking the same stupid questions over and over, taking every chance they get to talk to her. Everytime she frags you you gotta say something to remind her how fun you are having playing together. It gets old, real fast.
